FROM THE STAFF

Praise and glory to God for all the servants who “go about the Father’s business” renewing the grace of Pentecost in the life and mission of the Church. “For this reason I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God bestowed when my hands were laid on you” (2 Timothy 1:6). You and I, brothers and sisters, are sent to “rekindle” the fire of the Holy Spirit “within and beyond the Church!”

And, we are sent with all the gifts/charisms needed to accomplish the mission. We cannot shy away from the gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in the New Testament (1st Corinthians 12, Romans 12, etc.) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Both, the institutional and the charismatic dimensions of the Church must complement each other in the proclamation and implementation of the Gospel. We are one in the Spirit and we are one in the Lord! Glory to the Risen Christ!

We pray all are having a blessed summer and remind you that whether you are home or on vacation, attend mass, do your daily prayers and pray for us. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus never takes a vacation from us? His Holy Spirit is always with us to comfort us, guide us and love us. Thank you, Jesus!

The Charismatic Center will remain open throughout the summer and activities continue to serve you. The days of renewal, “Domingo Carismatico,” healing workshops and services, prayer group meetings and the bookstore continue their normal schedule. Your weekly and monthly contributions to the CCCR will help us minister throughout the summer.

We extend our sincere condolences to the FitzPatrick family. Deacon Alan FitzPatrick died on June 19. He served at St. Dominic’s Church in San Antonio and was involved in many different ministries throughout the Archdiocese. His love of God, the Church, and Charismatic Renewal was a great blessing to us all. We will miss him tremendously and know he is now resting in and with the Lord Jesus.

May the love, peace, and joy of Christ be yours. Please pray for us as we pray for you.

SPECIAL LEADERS SECTION by Ray Rossman - JULY 2005

Prayer – our pot of gold! I think that somewhere along our journey of life, each one of us is offered the key to God’s treasure house and yet many times, we fail to realize that the key is in our pocket. This may seem a bit simplistic to some people, but the truth is that if we REALLY believe in the Scripture and we take God at His word, then we must believe in the power of prayer.

Many times people are reluctant to pray because they either don’t believe that God has time to answer their prayer because it’s too small a matter to concern God or else they don’t pray because the matter is too big and they haven’t done enough to merit such a big favor from God. Both of these excuses are lies that Satan has fed us to kill our faith that God is truly a loving Father and that He cares about our EVERY need.

Is there a secret to prayer? Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father and He also told us to pray in agreement with someone else (“Where two or more agree etc.”) and He also told us to ask “in my name.” But I think the most important element of prayer is for us to praise God and thank Him in advance for answering our prayer. Praise is the acknowledgement that God is in control of all things and that His will for us is best. Thanksgiving is our saying to God that we know He is meeting our need and we are grateful to Him for His goodness. Remember the story of the ten lepers who were healed.

The other part of effective prayer is to have no unforgiveness in our heart. In Matthew 5, Jesus tells us to leave our gift at the altar and be reconciled to our brother before offering our gift to God. Don’t hold on to grudges! One other important point – read the Scripture, hold on to a personal promise from God to you and speak His word aloud. God is true to His word – he cannot go against Himself. The more we pray the more chances that we will have to see God’s goodness to us. Does He answer every prayer? Yes, yes, yes! Do we always get the answer WE want? No, no, no!

I feel that God’s presence with us is the comfort that we need to get us through every situation even though we may not see the answer to our prayer right away. Answered prayer changes our attitude – faith in God now becomes reality because we have EXPERIENCED God in a real way. We don’t have to rely on our faith, because we have seen God in action. Let’s give it a try! We only have our cares, burdens, and concerns to lose.

God Bless You!   Ray Rossman

Pope Benedict XVI to Meet With Movements in 2006

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 20, 2005 (Zenit.org)

Pope Benedict XVI will meet with ecclesial movements on the solemnity of Pentecost in 2006, Vatican sources told ZENIT. During a meeting with representatives of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, the Pope expressed his interest in holding a meeting similar to that of May 30, 1998, which gathered new ecclesial movements for the first time around Pope John Paul II, according to sources.

Next year's meeting will not be "an identical copy" of the 1998 event, which took place in St. Peter's Square and attracted more than 100,000 people, said the Vatican sources. This Saturday a meeting is scheduled in the Pontifical Council for the Laity with representatives of the ecclesial movements and communities, to discuss aspects of and preparations for the 2006 event.  At the end of last year, the Pontifical Council for the Laity published a 300-page "List of International Associations of the Faithful," which includes 123 associations that enjoy ecclesial recognition.  ZENIT News Agency, ZE05062003

Jesus Enters Worldly Situations - J.E.W.S. by jessiy

Hey everyone jessiy here, I hope ya’ll are having a great summer. While watching my TV for the fourth day in a row, (which is about the extent of some of my days during summer) my friend came over with a load of healthy food.

I watched her try to make a salad as she told me about the new diet she’s on. As I grabbed a chocolate bar and sat down to hear about her new diet I thought maybe I should get on a diet too? Then I thought well which one should I go on? After thinking for about a second I wonder if Jesus would ever get on a diet. And if he did what diet would he get on?
