FROM THE STAFF

Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth. As we end the year of the Eucharist, let us also say Glory to God in the Eucharist. It has given us a greater appreciation for not only the Eucharist, but also the sacraments. Come Holy Spirit, renew your whole Church that we may adore and praise you in the blessed sacrament of the Altar.

The National Leaders conference will be in Chicago, November 11 – 13. From all indications, it should be a powerful gathering of speakers and leaders from throughout the United States. At last check, very few have registered from our area. We highly recommend that you try to send your leaders. There will be workshops in every topic of interest in the Renewal and exhortations by internationally re-known speakers.

We also exhort you to attend the days of renewal, Spanish and English. We gather as community to encourage, affirm, and teach one another why “baptism in the Holy Spirit is the Christian inheritance of all.” In addition, why “renewing the grace of Pentecost in the life and mission of the Church” has been a theme often talked about and affirmed by the Holy Fathers John Paul II and Benedict XVI, Cardinals, and the Catholic Bishops of the United States, down to the local prayer groups. Leaders, we need you to encourage your groups and bring them to these events.

The youth teams work hard to develop programs for youth, to include the life in the Spirit seminars for CCD students preparing for the sacrament of confirmation, youth rallies, and the youth conference. What is needed is for you to make that known in every prayer group, ACTS teams and any other situation where people gather.

In every situation, brothers and sisters, others must know that we are “about the Father’s business.” If we “stay in the Spirit,” others will know we are Christians by our love, joy, peace and the other fruits of the Holy Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22. They will want what you have and you can tell them where they can get them. May the Holy Spirit anoint you with a fresh outpouring of His gifts.

What an awesome responsibility: proclaim the Gospel when convenient or inconvenient, when in season or out of season. Bringing others into a personal relationship with the Lord must have a priority in our lives. Sharing what is happening in the Renewal may encourage others to “come and see.”

Finally, brothers and sisters, we would like to hear your testimonies. The Bible says, “Signs and wonders followed those who believed.” Come share with us what the Lord is doing in your area.

God’s blessings to you, your ministries, and your families,

Most Rev. Thomas J. Flanagan, D.D.                                         Rosbel (Ros) Hernandez

SPECIAL LEADERS SECTION - LIVING IN THE SPIRIT by Ray Rossman

Leaders are gifted – not ordained! Having been a leader of prayer groups off and on for over 30 years, I have come to the realization that the Holy Spirit will give us the tools we need to be effective leaders. There is an old adage – God equips those He calls – he does not always call the equipped! Most of us have never taken any courses in leadership, yet we now find ourselves called to be good leaders. We have never been to seminary yet we are sometimes called to be a spiritual director.

We are called to be ministers of God’s love. When we accept the challenges of leadership and when we step forth and say, “Here I am, Lord,” the Holy Spirit will teach us that the best leaders are those that are the best listeners – listeners to the Spirit and to those who will teach us from experience.

Leadership is not a lifetime appointment! One of the main functions of a good leader is to discern the gifts of our prayer group members, especially the gifts of teaching and leadership. We need to listen to the Spirit and to encourage those with leadership skills to use those gifts in small ways so that they will be prepared to take on bigger tasks as they grow. It I good that the CCCR Service Committee has limited the term of any member to a maximum of 3 years.

This practice leads to new ideas and new vitality being injected into the group at regular intervals. It is encouraged that all prayer groups adopt a similar practice. Even our government limits the time that a President may serve. This should never imply that because a person no longer serves as a leader, they no longer serve! God’s gifts are never limited by time, and often we will need to fill the void left by the new leader moving up. Let the Spirit be your guide!

God bless you. Ray Rossman

From: ICCRS - International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services

Leadership Formation

“The Eucharist is fully experienced in our lives when it is a true manifestation (epiphany) of concrete intentions and gestures of communion, unity, living fraternity. It should express, vividly, that “fellowship which God wishes to establish with us and which we ourselves must build with one another.”

“At the XI International Conference of the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships, in November 2004, Pope John Paul II, in his address to the participants of the event, asked them to “be committed in this Year of the Eucharist to take initiatives so that the Eucharist will become increasingly a factor of union and cohesion in the People of God, in this world marked by violence and division.”

The year of the Eucharist:

The Church and the Jewish People - “The Jewish people have a unique position among world religions. They are not like other non-Christian faiths, because they are still, as John Paul II stated, ‘the people of the covenant.’”

“Rediscovering the Jewish roots of our faith in the Jewish Scriptures (the New Testament is also thoroughly Jewish) is already contributing to a new understanding of our faith. We rediscover Jesus as ‘the son of David, the son of Abraham’ (Matt. 1: 1) and as the Messiah of Israel, who becomes the Savior of the world”.

Mary Ellen Rossman - ADOPT A PRIEST ministry:

ATTENTION, INTERCESSORS FOR PRIESTS!

Bishop Tom Flanagan will celebrate Mass on Saturday, November 19 at 8:30 AM in the CCCR Chapel. He wishes to thank us for our faithfulness in praying for our priests in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. There have been many recent changes in the assignments of priests. We will review our individual prayer assignments and change them if necessary.

If you have not been a part of the ADOPT A PRIEST ministry, you are cordially invited to join us at this time. All we ask is that you pray for your assigned priests for one hour each week for their spiritual and physical needs. Bishop Tom has often said that this is a very powerful and effective ministry.

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.--- And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man (and woman)  is powerful and effective. James 5:13-16

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lorraine Hartsook: Are you looking for a speaker to come and talk to your group? Canadian Grammy Award Winner Country Gospel singer  Lorraine Hartsook will be in San Antonio for a limited time during November. She will be hosting a retreat and concert at St. Luke Catholic Church on Nov.12 & 13. Please contact Madeline Cosme at 210 735-9479  to schedule Lorraine to come to your church or speak to your group or organization.

Youth and Young Adults Section

"Today, it is your task, dear young people, to live and breathe the Church's universality. Let yourselves be inflamed by the fire of the Spirit, so that a new Pentecost may be created among you and renew the Church. Through you, may other young people everywhere come to recognize in Christ the true answer to their deepest aspirations, and may they open their hearts to receive the Word of God Incarnate, who died and rose so that God might dwell among us and give us the truth, love and joy for which we are all yearning."
